Product description
This structured and 'historic' red wine originates from Italy, within the Barolo D.O.C.G. appellation of the Piedmont region. The Prunotto estate, located in Alba, was originally founded as a cooperative in 1904 before being renamed by Alfredo Prunotto in 1923; it has been owned by the Antinori family since 1994. The winery's philosophy balances tradition and innovation, utilizing state of the art technology to interpret the territorial identity of its 65 hectares of vineyards in the Langhe and Monferrato. Serra is an exceptional, prized vineyard located in the southern part of the Serralunga d'Alba commune, and the 2020 vintage represents the first time Prunotto has produced this specific cru in limited quantities.
Wine Description
The 2020 Prunotto Serra Barolo presents a dark garnet red colour in the glass. Its sensory profile is refined and fresh, featuring a bouquet of red fruits, sage, and undergrowth, layered with delicate floral sensations of roses and violets and spicy aromas of pink pepper and ginger. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well balanced, showcasing intense red fruit flavours underpinned by an outstanding freshness and savory, balanced tannins. It is characterized by its silky texture and persistent aftertaste that echoes the fruity notes perceived on the nose. This 100% Nebbiolo reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14% and was aged in large 50 hL oak barrels for at least 18 months. While the estate gives particular attention to sustainable agriculture and manual techniques, this bottling is not certified organic.
