This distinguished wine originates from the Óbidos DOC in the Lisboa region of Portugal. Produced by Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal, a historic family-run estate founded in the 19th century, Quinta de S. Francisco is a benchmark for the region's Atlantic-influenced viticulture. The winery's philosophy combines tradition with innovation; they were pioneers in planting aligned, wired vineyards and separate varietal plots in a region traditionally known for mixed field blends. The estate is famous for its unique microclimate; shielded by the Serra do Montejunto but still cooled by Atlantic breezes resulting in wines with remarkable freshness and longevity.
Wine Description
The Quinta de S. Francisco red is a blend of traditional Portuguese varieties: Castelão, Aragonez (Tinta Roriz), and Touriga Nacional. It presents a deep ruby colour and an aromatic profile of ripe red fruits and blackberries, accented by notes of chocolate, vanilla, and spices (such as pepper and cinnamon) derived from aging in French and American oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, smooth, and well-structured, with a spicy character and a long, persistent finish.
