This red wine comes from the Rioja region of Spain, specifically from the historic La Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri estate situated in the Rioja Alavesa subregion. The property has been a site of viticulture since the 10th century when it was founded by monks, but the modern era began when Jaime Rodriguez purchased the estate in 1967. Today, the winery is led by his children, Telmo and Amaia Rodriguez, who have reclaimed the estate's tradition of producing genuine 'chateau' wines exclusively from their own vineyards.
Wine Description
The 2017 Remelluri Reserva is a deep garnet red with ruby reflections. Its intense nose reveals aromas of ripe blackcurrants and cherries, layered with tobacco, vanilla, and sweet spices like cinnamon. The palate is round and well structured, offering flavours of wild berries and earth balanced by polished, velvety tannins and a precise acidity. The finish is long and balsamic with a distinct mineral character. The estate has followed organic farming practices for decades and received full organic certification in 2010.
