Product description
Originating from Italy in the Tuscany region, specifically within the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation, Barone Ricasoli 'Brolio' Chianti Classico 2023 represents an authentic, refined, and historic expression of Tuscan winemaking. The Barone Ricasoli estate is the oldest winery in Italy, with origins dating back to 1141 at the Castello di Brolio in Gaiole in Chianti. It was Baron Bettino Ricasoli who formulated the official historic recipe for Chianti wine in the 19th century. Sourced from estate vineyard sites planted between 260 and 500 metres above sea level, the vines grow in a complex soil mosaic of sandstone (macigno), galestro limestone, alberese, and alluvial gravel deposits. Under general manager Francesco Ricasoli and head winemaker Massimiliano Biagi, the winemaking philosophy emphasizes fruit purity and terroir drive, utilizing temperature-controlled fermentation in small stainless steel tanks followed by maturation for 9 months in second- and third-fill French oak barrels. The result is a balanced, structured Chianti Classico brimming with vitality and mineral tension.
Wine Description
The wine presents a luminous pale ruby red colour with delicate garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of wild cherry, red raspberry, pomegranate, and cranberry, interwoven with subtle notes of iris, dried violets, black pepper, eucalyptus, and warm spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied, crisp, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of red berry fruit, blood orange, and savory mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by silky, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red fruits, dried herbs, and a clean chalky mineral grip. Composed predominantly of Sangiovese complemented by small amounts of Colorino, this 2023 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2025–2032. Stylistically, it combines Brolio's historic nobility with the crystalline freshness and effortless drinkability typical of Gaiole’s high-elevation vineyards.
