Ricasoli Lutelia Chardonnay 2024

This sophisticated white wine originates from Italy, within the Tuscany region and the Toscana I.G.T. designation. It is produced by Barone Ricasoli, one of the oldest and most historically significant wineries in Italy, with a lineage dating back to 1141. The Ricasoli family is legendary for defining the original formula for Chianti, but they also apply their centuries of expertise to international varietals like Chardonnay. The Lutelia vineyard is situated on well-drained sandstone and rocky soils (Macigno del Chianti) at high elevations of 400 to 500 metres, which foster complexity and structured acidity.

Wine Description

Lutelia Chardonnay presents a stylish and Burgundian-inspired profile with great structural balance. The sensory profile features a smoky and toasty nose with bright hints of lemon, apricot, and chestnut. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and "leesy," showcasing well-crafted fruit and a satisfying texture that balances sweetness with a refreshing sourness. It is characterized by nuanced notes of dried fig and maple syrup, leading to a savory, salty finish that some critics liken to the complexity found in Sherry or Sauternes. This 100% Chardonnay reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 12.5%. While Ricasoli emphasizes sustainable research into vineyard microclimates and parcel-based vinification, this bottling is not officially certified organic.
