Product description

This structured and 'authoritative' red wine originates from the United States, within the highly celebrated Oakville AVA of the central Napa Valley floor. As the historic flagship of the estate, "The Reserve" honors the pioneering vision of Robert Mondavi, who founded his namesake winery in 1966 with the explicit dream of creating Napa Valley wines that would stand proudly alongside first-growth Bordeaux. Sourced exclusively from the grand cru-caliber To Kalon Vineyard situated on the prime alluvial benchland of west Oakville the property operates under a philosophy of strict terroir precision. The vineyard's low-fertility, well-drained gravel soils force the deeply rooted vines to naturally restrict their yields, resulting in fruit of uncommon depth, density, and structural longevity.

Wine Description

The 2022 Robert Mondavi 'The Reserve' To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon presents an opaque, deep ruby appearance with a dark, concentrated core in the glass. Its sensory profile is layered and classic, opening with an expressive bouquet of ripe black cherries, fresh wild berries, cassis, and sweet plum, beautifully interwoven with dried sage, tarragon, violet petals, and loam. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and relaxed at first sip, seamlessly expanding to showcase rich flavors of black currant compote, cinnamon, and dark chocolate. It is characterized by an outstanding structural balance, showing a surprisingly crisp natural acidity (pH 3.67) that imparts vital freshness and lift against the wine's rich power. The mouthfeel is substantial yet velvety, driven by pronounced, fine-grained tannins that resolve into a lengthy, persistent finish detailed by lingering notes of sweet vanilla, forest floor, cedar, and smoky tobacco leaf.
