Product description
This exceptional red wine comes from Italy, originating from the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG in the northern sector of the Tuscany region. Acquired in 1984 by the celebrated Italian trans-avant-garde artist Sandro Chia, the historic Castello Romitorio estate is managed today alongside his son, Filippo Chia. The winery functions on a winemaking philosophy that bridges classic structural purity with artistic expression, highlighting the unique microclimates of their cooler, high-altitude vineyards surrounded by dense Mediterranean forest. The 'Filo di Seta' (meaning 'silk thread') is a single-vineyard bottling sourced from a specific, limestone-rich schistous clay parcel nestled at 250 metres above sea level, crafted to express a cooler, intensely vibrant, and finely drawn profile of the estate's terroir.
Wine Description
The 2019 Filo di Seta exhibits a brilliant, intense ruby red colour in the glass. On the nose, it delivers an incredibly etched, lively, and flamboyant bouquet dominated by aromas of dark berry fruit, blackberry, black cherry, and blood orange, layered with alluring scents of eucalyptus, tobacco, mint, dark chocolate, and damp earth. The palate is amply weighted, complex, and structural, revealing an energetic core of crisp cherry fruit, pomegranate, and spice notes like cinnamon and clove, all framed against a distinct mineral-like texture of petrichor, gravel, and wet slate. It displays a gorgeous harmony of powerful fruit concentration, vibrant, citrus-like acidity, and polished, fine-grained tannins that glide seamlessly across the tongue. Complex floral tones of purple flowers and iris root soften the back palette, culminating in an ultra-long, dramatic, and resonant finish. Composed of 100% Sangiovese, the wine spent 30 months maturing in French oak barrels followed by 12 months of refinement in the bottle before release. While highly rewarding soon after opening, this cellar keeper features an optimal drinking window spanning from 2025 through 2048.
