Product description

This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from Italy, within the esteemed Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. appellation of southern Tuscany. Produced by San Polino an artisanal, certified biodynamic and organic estate managed by Katia Nussbaum and Luigi Fabbro this wine is crafted with the same uncompromising care and philosophy as the estate's world-famous Brunellos. Sourced from estate vineyard parcels situated on the southeast slopes of Montalcino at elevations between 350 and 450 meters above sea level, the vines are rooted in mineral-rich soils composed of galestro (schistose clay), limestone, and sandstone. The vineyard's warm Mediterranean microclimate benefits from cooling breezes sweeping off Mount Amiata and the Tyrrhenian Sea, allowing Sangiovese Grosso to achieve full phenolic maturity while preserving a bright, mouthwatering natural acidity.

Wine Description

San Polino Rosso di Montalcino presents a luminous, deep ruby-garnet color in the glass with bright magenta highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an energetic, pure, and precisely focused expression of organic Montalcino Sangiovese. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of wild dark cherries, crushed red plums, and pomegranate, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of dried rose petals, Mediterranean scrub (macchia), wild thyme, leather, and a distinct line of crushed stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek, and athletic, showcasing a vibrant core of crunchy red stone fruits, blood orange zest, and subtle earthy spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly lifts its mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, silky, and supple, framed by fine-grained, chalky Sangiovese tannins that glide into a long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by persistent notes of cherry skin, wild herbs, and forest floor.
