Product description
Originating from the United States in California’s Paso Robles region, specifically within the Willow Creek District subregion, Saxum Broken Stones 2022 represents one of Central Coast’s most coveted cult wines. Founded by Justin Smith in 2002, Saxum Vineyards is renowned for producing exceptionally pure, block-selected Rhone style blends with organic and biodynamic farming practices. The philosophy centers on minimal cellar intervention to showcase the steep, lime rich shale soils and unique microclimates of the Willow Creek District.
Wine Description
The wine shows an opaque, deep purple black colour with vibrant violet highlights. A broad and expressive bouquet reveals aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, crushed rocks, liquid smoke, and dried herbs, framed by hints of lavender, cracked black pepper, and subtle toasted oak. On the palate, it delivers a rich, voluptuous, and layered profile brimming with concentrated dark berry fruit, sweet cocoa, and savoury garrigue supported by a core of vibrant natural acidity. Full bodied in structure, it flows into an extraordinarily long, broad finish anchored by fine, chalky, fine-grained tannins. Composed primarily of Syrah blended with small components of Mataro, Graciano, Grenache, and Petite Sirah, this release offers an optimal drinking window of 2025–2040. Stylistically, it combines profound fruit intensity and concentration with remarkable freshness and mineral nuance.
