Product description

Introduction

Shinobu Japanese Blended Whisky is a premium spirit from the Niigata prefecture of Japan. The distillery was founded in 2017 by master brewer Ken Usami, who also established the Niigata Beer Co.. The name 'Shinobu' translates to 'forbearance' in Japanese, symbolizing the patience and persistence required to craft great spirits. While the distillery initially experimented with blending and finishing whiskies from around the world to match Japanese flavours, it aims to produce its own local single malt whiskies.

Spirit Description

This blended expression is typically composed of 50% malt and 50% grain whiskies that are first aged in ex sherry and ex bourbon casks before receiving a final finish in rare Japanese Mizunara oak.

  • Colour: The liquid presents a very pale gold, almost water like appearance due to the lack of added colouring.

  • Aroma: The nose is soft and inviting, featuring notes of butter, coconut candy, mint, and grass, layered with jellied pear, honeysuckle, and the elegant scent of Mizunara oak.

  • Palate: It delivers a smooth and slightly oily mouthfeel with initial flavours of black pepper and clove that give way to ripe citrus fruit, baked apples, vanilla, and a hint of Chinese incense.

  • Body: The whisky is characterized by a unique fusion of flavours that is both dynamic and easy to drink, offering a velvety texture and refined oriental refinement.

  • Finish: It concludes with a long, smooth finish marked by sandalwood, vanilla, and lingering oak.

  • ABV: Shinobu Japanese Blended Whisky is bottled at 43%.
