Product description

Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay Russian River originates from the United States, within the California region and the Sonoma County subregion, incorporating prestigious fruit from the cool-climate Russian River Valley. Founded in 1981, the winery has established itself as a benchmark producer with an exclusive focus on crafting world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their winemaking philosophy centers on marrying traditional Burgundian methods with northern California precision, relying on cooling maritime breezes and morning fog to preserve the natural structure of the grapes.

Wine Description

This white wine displays a beautiful pale straw appearance with a slight greenish hue and possesses a medium-to-full body with a creamy, mouth-coating texture. The sensory profile is elegant and fruit-forward, opening with an aromatic nose of lime zest, Meyer lemon, green apple, and Bosc pear, accented by delicate notes of white flowers, toasted almonds, and white pepper. On the crisp and juicy palate, it delivers vibrant citrus brightness mixed with flavours of pineapple, lemon curd, and a touch of green melon. The finish is remarkably long, balanced, and velvety, leaving subtle trails of barrel spice, mineral tension, and light vanilla toast.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its harmonious balance of richness and restraint; it is aged for nine months in French oak barrels (20% new) and undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation to develop its signature lemon-meringue silkiness.

  • ABV: Typically 14.1%.

  • Organic Status: While the estate practices strict precision viticulture and meticulously hand-harvests their vineyard lots, this bottling is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The vibrant acidity, rich mid-palate, and balanced oak spice of this Chardonnay make it a magnificent companion for poultry, seafood, and rich sauces.

  • Poultry: Pairs exceptionally well with classic roasted chicken, roasted turkey with butter-infused stuffing, or chanterelle mushroom stuffed chicken breast.

  • Seafood: Suggested pairings include BC spot prawn bisque, pan-seared sea bass, crab cakes, or rich lobster dishes.

  • Savoury & Rich: Complements a comforting caramelized pear cheese fondue, wild mushroom risotto, or pasta with white wine cream sauce.

  • Cheese: Matches gracefully with artisanal cheese pairings, especially semi-soft options or a sharp cheddar.
