More Information
Product description
This vibrant white wine hails from South Africa, primarily located within the scenic Walker Bay district on the Cape South Coast of the Western Cape. Founded by Anthony Hamilton Russell in 1994, the estate is situated in the cool climate Hemel en Aarde Valley, just a few kilometres from the South Atlantic Ocean. The winery is driven by a philosophy of expressing unique site terroir and soil personality over simple varietal intensity, and it proudly contributes a portion of its proceeds to conserving the rare Southern Right whales that frequent the nearby bay.
Wine Description
Colour: Brilliant straw yellow with distinctive greenish highlights.
Aroma: A complex, non-pungent nose displaying lively aromas of passion fruit, guava, and citrus zest, balanced by subtle hints of white pepper, dried ginger, and fresh herbs.
Palate: Crisp, textural, and beautifully layered, featuring ripe flavors of white peach, melon, and citrus oil, all underscored by a deep sense of flinty, saline minerality.
Body: Light to medium body with a well-covered and structured mid-palate.
Finish: Clean, bright, and remarkably long with a rapier finish that echoes with lingering freshness.
Varietal Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from 27 different parcels grown across a complex mix of clay-rich shale, decomposed granite, and Table Mountain sandstone soils.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is highly unique and complex, achieving a beautiful balance between Old World minerality and New World palate coverage, leaning into individual character rather than simple, pungent fruit aromas. A small 7% portion was fermented in neutral barrels to enhance its complex texture.
Alcohol by Volume: 13.31%
Organic Status: Crafted using grapes grown under mindful farming practices with a focus on organic and endemic area yeasts.
Food Pairing
Fresh spring salads dressed with vinaigrette or pickled fish dishes.
Artisanal young white cheeses such as goat cheese and feta.
Fresh seafood, including stone bass tartare or raw oysters.
Vintage Quality
The 2025 growing season is considered one of the top South African vintages on record, benefiting from excellent late winter cold units and highly benign weather conditions. Mild disease pressure and lower-than-average rainfall during ripening resulted in an early February harvest with beautifully high acids and exceptional wine texture.
