Product description
Stags Leap Wine Cellars Aveta Sauvignon Blanc originates from the United States, within the California region and the Napa Valley subregion. The winery initially began producing its Napa Valley white wines in the early 1980s, but it was not until the 2013 harvest that this special bottling officially assumed the name 'Aveta'. The estate winemaking philosophy centers on capturing site transparency, naming the wine after a water goddess often depicted carrying fruit to highlight its bright energy and mineral structure.
Wine Description
This white wine presents a pale straw or pale yellow appearance with brilliant reflections in the glass and possesses a medium-bodied structure with a plump, smooth, and rounded mouthfeel. The sensory profile is highly inviting, expressive, and crisp, opening with an aromatic nose of mango, gooseberries, white peach, pineapple, and green apple, beautifully balanced by undertones of orange blossoms, wild grasses, fresh herbs, and wet straw. On the refreshing and vibrant palate, it delivers deep flavours of guava, lemongrass, melon, and fig, seamlessly cut through with a cleansing natural acidity and citrus-driven highlights. The finish is remarkably long, clean, and persistent, leaving a lasting trail of fresh grass, yuzu, pomelo, and a salty mineral edge.
Varietal Composition: Typically a characterful white blend consisting of 68% to 76% Sauvignon Blanc, 19% to 27% Sauvignon Musque, 1% to 4% Semillon, and 1% to 4% Muscat Canelli depending on the specific vintage.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its precise balance between texture and zip, utilizing fruit grown in the alluvial soils of key vineyards like Danika Ranch, Rancho Chimiles, Bravo Zulu, and Ryan's Vineyard. To build complexity while maintaining fruit clarity, the juice is fermented at cool temperatures in a mix of stainless steel tanks and older French oak barrels, followed by six to seven months of sur lie aging with bi-monthly stirring.
ABV: Typically recorded between 13.5% and 14%.
Organic Status: While the estate relies on meticulous, non-interventional viticulture to capture pure site transparency, this commercial release is not certified organic.
Food Pairing
The vibrant acidity, sleek mineral core, and deeply concentrated texture of this premium Sauvignon Blanc make it a versatile partner for fresh, savory, and herb-driven gastronomy.
Seafood: Pairs phenomenally well with fresh fish ceviche, baked cod fillets, steamed shellfish, crab cakes, or grilled oysters finished with mignonette sauce.
Poultry & Meats: Suggested pairings include chicken and sage skewers, light poultry preparations, or pork belly accompanied by confit octopus and fennel ceviche.
Savoury & Light Fare: Complements fresh tomato and basil salads, pasta Primavera, an asparagus starter course served with mousseline sauce, or a morel and white asparagus risotto.
Cheese: Matches gracefully with mild, soft cheeses or artisanal French sheep milk selections.
