Cantina Stroppiana Barolo Leonardo originates from Italy, within the prestigious Piedmont region and the renowned Barolo DOCG zone. Managed by Dario and Stefania Stroppiana, the family estate named this specific Barolo after their son, Leonardo, harvesting from vineyard plots planted between 1996 and 2000 that are roughly the same age as him. The winery's operational philosophy emphasizes an approachable expression of the appellation. By carefully sourcing Nebbiolo fruit from dedicated family parcels in the villages of Verduno and Rivalta di La Morra, they successfully balance traditional local depth with refined, modern clarity.
Wine Description
This red wine presents a classic ruby red appearance with characteristic garnet highlights in the glass. It possesses a medium-to-full-bodied structure defined by an elegant, harmonious, and velvety texture. The sensory profile is highly intense, classic, and complex, opening with an expressive nose of forest floor, raspberries, and wild cherries, beautifully intertwined with notes of dried flowers, rose petals, anise, tobacco, and subtle cedary spice. On the dry, warm, and structured palate, it delivers deep, juicy flavors of leathery cherry fruit, red berries, licorice, and mineral undertones. These elements are supported by a firm, chewy, and fine-grained tannic backbone balanced by a bright, refreshing natural acidity. The finish is enveloping, remarkably long, and persistent, culminating in a clean, savory, and very pleasant aftertaste.
Varietal Composition: 100% Nebbiolo.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its approachable complexity, bringing together excellent composure with an accommodating fruit structure. Following a mid-October harvest, the must undergoes controlled temperature fermentation for 10 to 15 days. It is then transferred to a combination of tonneaux and large French oak barrels to age for 24 months, followed by an additional 12 months of maturation in the bottle prior to commercial release.
ABV: Typically between 14% and 15% depending on the vintage.
