Mesa is a standout "modern" IPA from Vancouver’s Superflux Beer Company. While Superflux is primarily known for their thick, "juice-bomb" NEIPAs, Mesa represents a more refined, structured approach. It sits comfortably between a hazy IPA and a classic West Coast style—offering the intense, saturated tropical aromatics Superflux is famous for, but with a leaner malt body and a cleaner, more refreshing finish. It is often described by the brewery as a "simple, focused IPA" designed for maximum drinkability.

Beer Description

Mesa pours a glowing, pale straw-yellow with a soft, hazy opacity and a frothy, bright white head that leaves excellent lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The nose is an explosion of "green" and tropical hop notes. Expect immediate hits of fresh lime zest, white grape, and passionfruit, followed by a subtle, resinous pine and a distinct floral quality (think elderflower or crushed gooseberries).

Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-light-bodied with a crisp, effervescent mouthfeel. Unlike their heavier IPAs, Mesa leads with a very clean, cracker-like malt base. This allows the hop flavors—predominantly citrus pith and tropical stone fruit—to take center stage. The finish is remarkably dry and snappy, with a firm but smooth bitterness that cleanses the palate.

Profile: It has a robust ABV of 6.5% and a moderate bitterness that provides more "cut" than a standard New England IPA, making it feel lighter and more refreshing than its strength suggests.

Technical Notes: Brewed with a heavy focus on Nelson Sauvin and Citra hops. The Nelson Sauvin (from New Zealand) provides the signature "Sauvignon Blanc" grape and gooseberry notes, while the Citra adds the familiar citrus backbone. The water profile is treated to be slightly "crisper" than their flagship Colour & Shape, resulting in a beer that is less creamy and more "zesty."
