Product description
This additive-free, high-proof reposado tequila originates from Mexico, produced at NOM 1414 (Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados) in Arandas, within the Highlands (Los Altos) of Jalisco. Crafted using 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at peak maturity, the agave piñas are slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens (hornos) and roller-mill crushed. The juice undergoes open-air fermentation using a proprietary cultured yeast strain before double distillation in small copper pot stills. This High Proof expression is aged for approximately 3 months in medium-toast American oak barrels before being bottled at a formidable strength of 96 proof (48.0% ABV)—delivering an unadulterated, agave-forward profile framed by subtle wood influence.
Spirit Description
This reposado displays a pale, straw-gold color with brilliant clarity and thick, slow-running legs in the glass. On the nose, it is vibrant, punchy, and aromatic, opening with dominant aromas of cooked agave, bright citrus (grapefruit and lime zest), and fresh cracked white pepper, followed by soft undertones of vanilla bean, toasted cinnamon, and light cedar. On the palate, it feels oily, full-bodied, and energetic, delivering an initial explosion of rich, caramelized agave sweetness and baking spices, which quickly shifts into bright minerality, lemongrass, and gentle toasted oak. The elevated 48% ABV strength provides a bold structural backbone that amplifies the cooked agave without harsh alcohol burn. The finish is long, crisp, and warming, trailing off with persistent notes of cooked agave, white pepper spice, subtle oak tannins, and a cleansing citrus zest.
Accolades
Lost Lore Reposado High Proof has achieved high acclaim among tequila purists, master bartenders, and additive-free spirit enthusiasts. Produced at the renowned NOM 1414 distillery—famous for traditional production standards—it routinely earns outstanding ratings on platforms like Tequila Matchmaker. Critics applaud it for defying the common trend of over-oaked reposados, praising its ability to let the high-proof Highland agave character shine front and center while using short barrel maturation merely to round out the mouthfeel.
