Product description
Terravista Vineyards, located on the acclaimed Naramata Bench in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, is widely recognized as a Canadian pioneer for Iberian grape varieties. Following a severe winter freeze in early 2024 that devastated local crop yields across British Columbia, the winery launched its "Proyecto Terruño" (Terroir Project). This initiative allowed the estate to sustain its production by sourcing premium fruit from select Pacific Northwest and California vineyards.
This specific single-vineyard bottling features Albariño sourced from the family-owned Grand Island Vineyard, located in the Clarksburg AVA of California's Sacramento Delta. This site is celebrated for its maritime-influenced microclimate, which mirrors the grape's native European conditions.
Wine Description
The Terravista Albariño "Proyecto Terruño" Grand Island 2024 is a crisp, highly energetic, and mineral-driven white wine that beautifully translates California fruit through a precise Okanagan winemaking lens.
Appearance: Brilliant, clear pale straw-yellow with subtle platinum glints.
Nose: Highly expressive and aromatic. The bouquet bursts with primary scents of lime zest, green apple, and white peach, accented by delicate top notes of jasmine and wild white blossoms.
Palate: The wine enters with a focused, linear precision. It offers vibrant flavors of pink grapefruit, sea salt, and lemon pith, supported by a mouthwatering, "crunchy" acidity. Thanks to specialized cellar techniques, the palate transitions into a textured, smooth mid-palate before culminating in a long, refreshing, and clean saline finish.
Technical Details: 100% Albariño. The fruit was hand-harvested from the Grand Island Vineyard in Clarksburg, California. To preserve the pure varietal character, winemaker Nadine Kinvig fermented the wine primarily in stainless steel tanks. However, a portion was fermented and aged in concrete eggs, a method that introduces gentle oxygenation and lees contact to build a creamy textural weight without masking the fruit. The wine is bone-dry (0.0 g/L residual sugar) with an alcohol content of 13.0% ABV.
Food Pairing
This wine’s distinct saline character and zesty, refreshing acidity make it a perfect match for fresh seafood. It pairs exceptionally well with raw oysters on the half shell, ceviche, and grilled sardines. It is also a wonderful companion for light summer fare, such as a citrusy arugula salad with goat cheese, fish tacos with lime crema, or traditional Spanish tapas like gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns).
