Product description

Introduction

This red wine is from Italy, specifically from the Toscana IGT region in Tuscany. Produced by Marchesi Antinori, Tignanello is a historic milestone in Italian viticulture as the first Sangiovese-based wine to be aged in barriques and the first modern red from the Chianti Classico area to exclude white grapes while incorporating non-traditional varieties like Cabernet. The estate's winemaking philosophy focuses on reconciling tradition and modernity, sourcing fruit exclusively from a 57-hectare vineyard situated between 350 and 400 metres above sea level with limestone-rich soils.

Wine Description

The 2019 Tignanello is an intense ruby red colour. Its complex nose offers exceptional depth with aromas of red berries, cherry, and pomegranate, layered with delicate notes of apricot, vanilla, chocolate, and Mediterranean herbs like mint and lavender. On the palate, the wine is robust yet elegant, featuring silky, vibrant tannins and flavours of dark berry fruit, blood orange, and roasted coffee. It is characterized by its sinewy tension, refined structure, and a lengthy finish with hints of bitter chocolate. The varietal composition is approximately 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. It has an ABV of 14% and is best enjoyed from 2025 through 2042.

Food Pairing

This Super Tuscan pairs excellently with rich meat dishes such as roasted lamb, duck, or venison. Its structured tannins and vibrant acidity also complement classic Italian fare, including Ragu Bolognese, pasta with truffles, and hearty red meat preparations. For cheese, it is ideally suited to aged varieties or savoury selections like prosciutto.

Vintage Quality

The 2019 vintage in Tuscany is regarded as 'classic', benefiting from a balanced growing season with cool spring rains and a warm summer without extreme heat spikes. These favourable conditions, including a ripening phase with excellent day-night temperature swings in late August and September, resulted in grapes of outstanding quality and refined structural harmony.
