Product description

Ledaig Castaway is a limited edition, heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky originating from the Isle of Mull in the Island region of Scotland. The spirit is produced at Tobermory Distillery, which was founded in 1798 by John Sinclair and remains the only operational whisky distillery on the island. The historic distillery is currently owned by Burn Stewart Distillers, a subsidiary of Heineken Beverages, and is renowned for crafting two distinct styles of single malt: the unpeated Tobermory and the robust, peated Ledaig.

Spirit Description

Launched in May 2026, Ledaig Castaway represents a rare, experimental maturation feat for the distillery, marking the first time they have aged a spirit using a dual combination of Caribbean rum casks and Mexican tequila casks with no ex-bourbon wood influence. The non-aged statement liquid is crafted from heavily peated malted barley, left non-chill filtered, and kept completely free of artificial colouring to preserve its natural texture. The distillery capped this unique global release at a limited run of 6,428 bottles worldwide.

  • Colour: Light straw gold, naturally derived from its exclusive dual cask maturation.

  • Aroma: Expressive and maritime, opening with distinct coastal peat smoke, caramelised banana, lime zest, and sweet vanilla, layered alongside green apple, white pepper, and a subtle hint of sea spray.

  • Palate: Dynamic and complex, featuring an initial lead of bold smoky spice that balances beautifully against sweet grilled pineapple, salty brine, and herbal agave, which develops into black pepper, charred citrus, and rich toffee.

  • Body: Rich, viscous, and full-bodied with a heavily peated, oily mouthfeel that coats the palate cleanly.

  • Finish: Long and warming, trailing off with the taste of smouldering peat embers, demerara sugar sweetness, persistent chilli heat, and a final crisp twist of lime.

  • ABV: Bottled at a powerful cask strength of 61.1%.
