Product description

Late to the Party is a vibrant, modern Hazy IPA from Calgary’s Tool Shed Brewing Company. As the name cheekily suggests, Tool Shed known for their classic, clear-as-a-whistle ales like People Skills was famously "late" to jump on the New England IPA (NEIPA) trend. However, when they finally arrived, they did so with technical precision. This beer is designed to be a "juice bomb," prioritizing massive tropical fruit aromatics and a soft, silky mouthfeel over the aggressive, resinous bitterness of old-school IPAs.

Beer Description

Late to the Party pours a thick, opaque "pineapple juice" yellow with a dense, creamy white head and a soft, glowing appearance.

Aroma: The nose is an absolute explosion of tropical fruit. It leads with a heavy hit of passion fruit, mango, and crushed pineapple, followed by a bright citrus burst of tangerine and lime zest. There is no "dank" or piney scent here; it is purely focused on the "punch-bowl" aromatics of modern hops.

Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-to-full bodied with a pillowy, "juicy" mouthfeel that coats the palate. It leads with flavors of ripe stone fruit and tropical nectar, followed by a soft, bready malt middle. The bitterness is exceptionally low and "soft," providing just enough structure to keep the beer from being cloying without any sharp or "scratchy" hop burn.

Profile: It sits at a sturdy 6.5% ABV and a low perceived bitterness, making it dangerously easy to drink for its strength.

Technical Notes: To achieve the signature haze and "pillowy" texture, Tool Shed utilizes a heavy dose of flaked oats and wheat in the grain bill. The hop profile is driven by a massive double dry-hop (DDH) regimen, typically using varieties like Citra and Mosaic. By adding the majority of the hops during and after fermentation, they extract all the essential oils for aroma and flavor while leaving the harsh bittering acids behind.
