Torres Mas La Plana 2019

Torres Mas La Plana originates from a single 29-hectare vineyard in the Turons de Vilafranca subzone, located in the heart of the Penedès region in Catalonia, Spain. The estate was founded in 1870 by brothers Jaime and Miguel Torres, and the wine gained legendary status in 1979 when its 1970 vintage triumphed over top French labels at the Gault & Millau Wine Olympics in Paris. Today, the winery is managed by the fifth generation of the family, who have implemented a winemaking philosophy focused on regenerative viticulture to restore soil fertility and promote biodiversity.

Wine Description

This wine typically presents a deep ruby or dark, opaque red-purple colour. The sensory profile is intense and complex, featuring aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cassis, layered with notes of cedar, tobacco, truffle, and finely roasted spices. On the palate, it is full bodied and structured, offering flavours of ripe berry fruit, cocoa powder, and licorice, balanced by a bright, crunchy acidity. The finish is long and polished, characterized by velvety, well-integrated tannins and a lingering savouriness. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon varietal generally has an ABV of 14.5% and is produced using sustainable and organic viticulture principles.

  Excellent freshness and intensity of meaty blue fruit here with currants, blackberries, dark plums, peppercorns and chocolate, with dark earth and some spearmint. Crushed stone minerality on the palate, with fantastic freshness. Full-bodied, tight, caressing and perfectly ripe tannins. Already delicious, but will age beautifully. Cabernet sauvignon.   A cuvée produced since 1970, the 2019 Mas La Plana is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Penedès. Aged 18 months in oak barrels and (61% new) with only 4% remaining in steel tanks, this wine presents a garnet hue with a purple sheen. The aromas feature cassis, tobacco and licorice, along with ripe cherry and orange petit four. Dry, rich and indulgent, it flows with intensity, eventually becoming compact due to its chalky mouthfeel.
