The brand was established in 1988 by the Empson family, who sought to combine their passion for the region with the expertise of renowned winemaker Franco Bernabei. The winery's name itself serves as a tribute to its origins, as 'Toscolo' is a Renaissance-era term meaning 'Tuscan boy'.

This wine displays a brilliant ruby colour characterized by garnet reflections. The sensory profile offers an ample bouquet featuring aromas of marasca cherries, plums, violets, and iris, often accompanied by secondary notes of vanilla, black pepper, and nutmeg. On the full and luscious palate, it presents a complex structure with flavours of ripe berries, mocha, and dark chocolate, supported by firm yet polished tannins. The finish is notably long and clean with a lingering touch of spice. The varietal composition typically consists of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot. It has an ABV of approximately 13% and is crafted using traditional vinification with a well-integrated use of wood.
