Product description
Vin de Constance 2016 is a celebrated sweet wine from Klein Constantia Estate, located in the heart of South Africa’s Constantia Valley. This iconic wine is crafted from 100% Muscat de Frontignan grapes and has a legacy dating back to the 18th century, earning acclaim among royalty and wine connoisseurs alike.
Vineyard and Terroir
The estate’s vineyards are nestled on the slopes of Constantiaberg, benefiting from cooling ocean breezes and granite-rich soils. These unique conditions allow for the slow ripening of grapes, enhancing their aromatic complexity and natural acidity.
Winemaking Process
Grapes are hand-picked in multiple passes to ensure perfect ripeness. After gentle pressing, fermentation is carried out in stainless steel and French oak barrels, allowing the wine to preserve its fruit purity while gaining depth from extended barrel aging. The 2016 vintage matured for three years in a combination of 50% new French oak and acacia barrels before bottling.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Brilliant amber-gold with luminous reflections.
- Aroma: Aromas of ripe apricots, candied orange peel, and honey are layered with hints of spice, ginger, and floral notes.
- Palate: Luxuriously rich and opulent, featuring flavours of dried stone fruits, marmalade, and vanilla. A vibrant acidity balances the sweetness, leading to an exceptionally long, elegant finish.
