Product description

Originating from Chile in the Maipo Valley region, specifically within the Pirque sub-zone in the Andean foothills, Viña El Principal 'Kinē' Verdejo 2025 represents an innovative, high-altitude, and distinctive expression of South American white winemaking. Founded in 1992 as a joint partnership between French winemaking legend Jean-Paul Valette (former owner of Château Pavie) and Chilean Jorge Pérez Cruz, Viña El Principal is renowned for its gravelly alluvial soils situated at 750 to 800 metres above sea level along the Andes Mountains. Named after the Mapudungun word kinē—meaning 'one' or 'unique'—this bottling is a rare Chilean expression of the Spanish Verdejo grape. Under technical director Gonzalo Guzmán, the winemaking philosophy incorporates hand harvesting from high-density mountain plots, gentle pneumatic pressing, cool temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation, and four to six months of maturation on fine lees with periodic stirring (bâtonnage). The result is a vibrant white wine that marries Andean structural tension, broad lees texture, and intensely aromatic citrus purity.

Wine Description

The wine presents a brilliant, clear light straw yellow colour with luminous pale greenish highlights along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of pink grapefruit, crisp green apple, white peach, and lemongrass, interwoven with sophisticated notes of white blossom, fresh fennel, lemon verbena, crushed mountain stone minerality, and subtle saline sea breeze. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silken, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of citrus fruit, white stone fruit, and chalky mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural high-altitude acidity. Framed by a textured, subtly creamy mid-palate structure and a sleek mineral grip, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering grapefruit zest, wild herbal spice, and a clean gravelly snap. Composed of 100% Verdejo, this 2025 release offers immediate drinking appeal along with cellaring potential over 3 to 5 years. Stylistically, it combines high-elevation Chilean freshness, aromatic herbal complexity, and exceptional food friendliness.
