Product description
This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from Spain, within the prestigious Rioja appellation (specifically the Rioja Alta sub-zone). Viña Otano is a historic family-owned estate with roots dating back to 1882 in Fuenmayor. Operating under a balance of traditional Riojan winemaking and modern precision viticulture, the estate focuses on low yields and old-vine purity. Sourced from estate vineyards situated in the rolling hills of Fuenmayor and Entrena, the vines are rooted in clay-limestone and iron-rich alluvial soils. The site enjoys a temperate microclimate where Atlantic maritime influences meet warm Mediterranean breezes, allowing Tempranillo and its traditional blending partners to achieve complete phenolic maturity while maintaining vibrant, mouthwatering natural acidity.
Wine Description
Viña Otano Rioja Crianza/Tinto presents a luminous, deep cherry-red color in the glass with bright ruby-violet shimmers along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and expressive, delivering a classic, fruit-forward, and well-structured portrait of Rioja Alta. The bouquet opens with an inviting display of fresh red plums, wild blackberries, and juicy red cherries, seamlessly layered with subtle underlays of dried lavender, vanilla bean, sweet tobacco leaf, cocoa, and a touch of toasted cedarwood. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a succulent core of red and black stone fruits, licorice, and subtle baking spice. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its mid-palate density. The mouthfeel is energetic, smooth, and supple, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into a clean, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of dark berry compote and subtle oak spice.
