Product description

WhistlePig "The Béhôlden" 21 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey represents a historic milestone in North American distilling. Released in Spring 2023 as an ultra-limited allocation of just 18 barrels, it holds the distinction of being the first-ever super-aged single malt produced in North America—matured more than twice as long as any other single malt on the continent.

The spirit was originally copper-pot distilled from 100% malted barley at the historic Glenora Distillery in Nova Scotia, Canada, before being transported to WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont, where it underwent its signature barrel finishing and bottling.

Whiskey Description

In the glass, The Béhôlden presents a rich, deep amber-caramel tone. On the nose, it delivers an inviting bouquet of baked red apples, golden raisins, candied citrus, and sweet cherry, interwoven with rich maple syrup, cinnamon bark, vanilla, and toasted oak char.

On the palate, this 100% malted barley expression is bottled at 46% ABV (92 Proof). The entry is remarkably smooth and buttery, featuring flavors of butterscotch custard, graham cracker, black cherry juice, and apricot. As it develops across the mid-palate, the 21 years of primary aging in ex-bourbon oak barrels merge seamlessly with savory rye spice, dark cocoa, and nutmeg imparted by its final finish in WhistlePig rye casks. The finish is long, dry, and balanced, lingering with notes of charred oak, maple praline, subtle clove, and a delicate touch of smoke.
