Product description

Yalumba Y Series Shiraz - Viognier originates from Australia, within the South Australia region. Established in 1849, Yalumba is the oldest family-owned winery in the country, with the Hill-Smith family guiding the estate for six generations. The winemaking philosophy behind the Y Series collection combines authentic Australian winemaking practices with a minimalistic, modern approach that emphasizes wild fermentation and human intervention only when necessary.

Wine Description

This red wine displays a bright to deep crimson purple colour and possesses a full, round body. The sensory profile is highly exotic and expressive, opening with a fragrant nose of ripe cherries, boysenberry, and wild blueberries, seamlessly complemented by the white pepper, musk, and violet aromatics provided by the Viognier grape. On the approachable palate, it delivers lush flavours of dark cherry, plum, and spiced fruit cake, layered with a sweet hint of Turkish delight. The finish is long and velvety, showing excellent harmony between the two co-fermented varieties.

  • Varietal Composition: A traditional blend dominated by Shiraz, enhanced with a small percentage of Viognier grapes co-fermented with as many whole berries as possible.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its structural harmony and bright fruit purity, utilizing cool stainless steel tank fermentations with naturally occurring indigenous yeasts and no oak aging to keep the fruit character lively and fresh.

  • ABV: Typically recorded at 14.5%.

  • Organic Status: While the winery prioritizes strict environmental management and sustainable viticulture under Entwine Australia certifications, this specific bottling is not certified organic; however, it is officially certified as vegan-friendly.

Food Pairing

The vibrant fruit profile, smooth texture, and exotic aromatics of this Shiraz - Viognier blend make it a fantastic match for seasoned, protein-rich dishes.

  • Meats: Pairs beautifully with grilled beef skewers, slow-braised pork belly, or lamb chops.

  • Savoury: Suggested pairings include Moroccan spiced grilled eggplant covered in a rich tomato and chili sauce, or falafel wraps stuffed with fresh cucumber, tomatoes, and hummus.

  • Game: Complements rich wild game options such as venison or roasted duck.
