Product description

Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico originates from Italy, within the Veneto region and the Valpolicella Classico subregion. Established in 1960 by Sergio and Carla Zenato, the property has cemented a global reputation for quality focused viticulture centered in the Sant'Ambrogio township. The family's winemaking philosophy focuses on capturing the depth of local traditions with style and precision, allowing their vines to coexist with the stony, chalky limestone hillside soils of the region.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a deep ruby red appearance that tends towards garnet with aging, and possesses a big, powerful, and full bodied structure with a plush, velvety texture. The sensory profile is exceptionally intense, complex, and enveloping, opening with an aromatic nose of maraschino cherries, cassis, dried plums, and figs, balanced by undertones of sweet tobacco, bay leaves, truffles, and fine spices. On the warm and pillowy palate, it delivers luscious, deep flavours of dark chocolate fudge, blackberry jam, licorice, and prunes, cut through with a cleansing natural acidity and soft, integrated tannins. The finish is remarkably long, majestic, and savory, leaving trailing trails of cocoa powder, toasted black pepper, and subtle balsamic notes.

  • Varietal Composition: A traditional Valpolicella blend primarily composed of 80% to 85% Corvina Veronese, rounded out with 10% Rondinella, and 5% minor regional varieties like Oseleta and Croatina.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its masterful balance of immense extract and freshness, crafted via the traditional appassimento method. Hand picked clusters are left to dry in ventilated rooms for 3 to 4 months before a slow winter fermentation on the skins and extended aging for 36 to 48 months in large Slavonian oak casks.

  • ABV: Typically recorded between 16.5% and 17%.

  • Organic Status: While the estate relies on meticulous, manual agriculture and strict fruit selection to safeguard the transparency of the Sant'Ambrogio plots, this bottling is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The robust body, deep fruit concentration, and velvety tannic frame of this Amarone Classico make it an ideal partner for rich, deeply savory gastronomy.

  • Meats: Pairs beautifully with thick cuts of dry aged beef like a traditional Bistecca Fiorentina, braised meat dishes, slow simmered pot roasts, and hearty beef pies.

  • Savoury & Italian Staples: Suggested pairings include a rich wild mushroom risotto, pasta served in a decadent cream sauce with truffles, or wild game reductions.

  • Cheese: Matches spectacularly with structured platters of mature, hard aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or sharp blue selections.
