Product description
Originating from Italy in the Piedmont region, specifically within the Langhe DOC appellation, Gaja 'Alteni di Brassica' Langhe 2024 represents a world-class, aristocratic, and age-worthy expression of Italian Sauvignon Blanc. Crafted by the legendary Gaja family in Barbaresco, this wine takes its name from alteni—small stone walls that historically surrounded vineyard plots in Piedmont—and brassica, the yellow wildflower that blooms in the vineyards during springtime. Sourced from choice estate parcels in Barbaresco and Serralunga d'Alba planted on steep limestone and clay-marl soils, the winemaking philosophy combines whole-cluster pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation, and refined aging in oak barrels (a blend of new and neutral oak) for approximately six months followed by extended bottle refinement. The result is a profound, structured white wine that seamlessly marries classic varietal lift with Piedmontese mineral power and Gaja's benchmark elegance.
Wine Description
The wine presents a clear, luminous pale golden yellow colour with bright greenish reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly complex bouquet opens with noble aromas of pink grapefruit, Meyer lemon curd, ripe white peach, and passion fruit, interwoven with sophisticated notes of lemongrass, wild herbs, elderflower, crushed flint, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied, satiny, and intensely concentrated, delivering laser-focused flavours of citrus zest, orchard fruit, and saline mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by a rich, coat-the-mouth texture derived from oak contact and a driving mid-palate structure, it concludes with an extraordinarily long, persistent finish marked by lingering grapefruit peel, savory herbs, and a distinct chalky limestone grip. Composed of 100% Sauvignon Blanc, this 2024 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2038+. Stylistically, it combines European elegance and aromatic intensity with remarkable depth, complexity, and cellaring capability.
