Product description

Originating from Italy in the Sicily region, specifically within the Sicilia DOC appellation on the slopes of Mount Etna, Gaja Etna Bianco 'Idda' 2025 represents an extraordinary, mineral driven joint venture between Piedmont’s iconic Gaja family and renowned Sicilian winemaker Alberto Graci. The name 'Idda' means 'She' in the Sicilian dialect, paying local homage to Mount Etna itself. Sourced from high-altitude volcanic vineyards situated at 600 to 800 metres above sea level in Belpasso and Biancavilla on the southern slopes of the volcano, the vines grow on basaltic, ash-rich volcanic soils. The winemaking philosophy combines gentle whole-cluster pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation, and maturation in a combination of oak casks and stainless steel tanks for approximately 12 months. The result is a refined white wine that seamlessly highlights the intense volcanic minerality and crisp salinity of indigenous Sicilian varietals.

Wine Description

The wine presents a clear, luminous pale straw yellow colour with bright greenish-gold reflections along the rim. An expressive, complex bouquet opens with enticing aromas of ripe Meyer lemon, white peach, crushed flint, and grapefruit zest, interwoven with noble notes of orange blossom, dried Mediterranean herbs, sea spray, and a subtle touch of toasted almond. On the palate, it is medium bodied, precise, and taut, delivering concentrated flavours of citrus curd, green apple, and volcanic ash, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by a textured, satiny mid-palate derived from fine lees contact, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering lemon peel, savory salinity, and a clean mineral grip. Composed primarily of Carricante blended with a small proportion of Riesling, this 2025 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2037. Stylistically, it combines high-altitude freshness and laser-like precision with Gaja's hallmark weight, elegance, and balance.h, citrus peel, honey, lime juice and white flowers to be found, ending with a gentle stoniness.
