Product description

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2023 originates from France, within the southern Rhône Valley and the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Managed by the Perrin family (Famille Perrin) across multiple generations, Beaucastel is one of the most celebrated and historically significant estates in the region. Located in the northernmost sector of the appellation near Coudoulet, the 110-hectare estate features distinctive soils of rolled pebbles (galets roulés) over limestone, sand, and clay. Beaucastel's operational philosophy stands apart through its commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, as well as its traditional practice of vinifying all 13 official grape varieties authorized in the appellation. The winemaking approach emphasizes balance, aromatic precision, and age-worthiness over sheer alcohol or heavy extraction.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a luminous, deep ruby-purple appearance in the glass with bright magenta highlights at the rim. It possesses a full-bodied, supple, and beautifully articulated structure defined by a silky, mouth-coating, and balanced texture. The sensory profile is highly expressive, layered, and complex, opening with a classic bouquet of dark cherries, wild blackberries, and red plum preserves, seamlessly interwoven with signature Beaucastel nuances of garrigue herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender), gamey cured meats, black pepper, licorice, leather, and crushed stone minerality. On the palate, it delivers a generous core of juicy dark and red fruit held together by fine-grained, polished tannins and a remarkable thread of natural freshness given the warm southern climate. The finish is long, clean, and persistent, leaving lingering echoes of sweet spice, dark cocoa, and dried flowers.

  • Varietal Composition: Typically dominated by Mourvèdre (30%) and Grenache (30%), complemented by Syrah (10%), Counoise (10%), Cinsault (5%), and smaller proportions of the remaining authorized Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties (Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Clairette, Picpoul, Picardan, and Bourboulenc).

  • Stylistic Notes: Hand-harvested with strict sorting in the vineyard and cellar. Each variety is vinified separately in temperature-controlled vats, with a high proportion of Mourvèdre giving the blend its signature structure, gamey complexity, and ageability. Following blending, the wine aged for approximately 12 to 14 months in large oak casks (foudres) before bottling, preserving pure fruit expression without heavy oak influence.

  • ABV: 14.5%.

  • Organic Status: Fully Certified Organic and Biodynamic (certified by Ecocert / Demeter), continuing the estate's long tradition of chemical-free farming since the 1950s.
